Brasov Quality Medical Holidays at ITB Berlin
Wednesday, April 11th, 2012Let’s Go Skiing in May! Where? In Poiana Brasov!
Monday, November 22nd, 2010With the winter season almost here and many of us dreaming of endless ski slopes covered with perfect powder snow, I’ve decided to focus this blog entry on an interesting initiative in Poiana Brasov, one of the best known skiing resorts in Romania. What does this have to do with medical tourism? Your traveling partner can take advantage of its location, in the proximity of Brasov – it’s a lovely 15 minutes drive from Brasov to the resort.
The local authorities of Brasov prepare a grand design for Poiana Brasov. This would be translated into up to 60% larger slopes and an artificial lake on top of Mount Postavaru destined to supply water for the 46 snow cannons to be installed. Besides covering the slopes in quality snow, the technology to be implemented would mean slopes will be open, in some cases until the month of May.
In total, there would be 13 kilometers of rehabilitated slopes and six kilometers of extended slopes.

Of Brasov And How We Did It, Romania!
Monday, September 27th, 2010If you’re still not convinced to visit Brasov as a medical tourist or even a regular tourist, then this blog entry might just do the trick. For those of you that don’t know this yet, Brasov was recently granted the title of Best City in Romania by a prestigious national newspaper, after a voting campaign which saw major cities in Romania compete for the title. Anything else? Oh yes, Qdays was involved this past weekend in the environmental cleanup campaign Let’s Do It World! Intrigued? Read more here, and see the pictures.
Children & Plastic Surgery
Friday, August 27th, 2010Working in the medical travel field, I get to meet many people who are interested in medical procedures, but cosmetic surgery is the one that strikes me every time. People with great faces and great bodies still want to undertake surgery for that next step forward. I do understand that everybody wants to look great, and therefore feel great, but an article really caught my eye recently. Don’t get me wrong, I could not offer a service I don’t believe in, but what I do feel is that there needs to be a “need”, be it psychological or physical, not just a “want” in order to have plastic surgery.
According to naturalnews.com, 160,000 U.S. children had cosmetic surgery in 2008. Amongst the most sought after procedures we find breast augmentation, liposuction and Botox injection. This is when I decided to do some research on the subject. There are forums loaded with teenagers interested in cosmetic surgery and there’s no surprise that breast augmentation and liposuction were the most debated subjects. Moreover, parents feel that if they can have these surgery procedures, why wouldn’t their children have them?
Commenting BBC’s Report on Romanian Healthcare
Friday, August 13th, 2010This entry is written in reply to BBC’s article on Romanian Healthcare using a grim approach and a very sad story.
I’m sure a lot of people have come across BBC’s report on the Romanian Healthcare System – for those who haven’t I will include a link to it.
I wish the BBC would have used a comparison system between the rate of infections in public hospitals in Romania and that of infections in public hospitals in Europe or indeed in the UK. I’ll give you a hint I got from reading media related articles:
Romania has a hospital infection rate between 2% and 10% depending on hospital size and location while Britain stands at 9% average. I believe Romania is well within the European average.
